Road Construction Requests

Road construction requests may be forwarded to the County office or to your Councillor at any time. Policy 3201 is used as a guideline to evaluate and prioritize road construction requests. Prior to September each year, Council reviews all road construction requests and prepares a priority list of roads to be constructed during the following year.

The priority list is determined by the following:

  1. Residential access with school children;

  2. School bus route roads that would mean a substantial savings to the School Division and reduction in traveling time for the school children;

  3. Residential access with no school children;

  4. Farmland access;

  5. Other requests.

Gravel Requests
The County has developed a special gravel permit that can be issued to registered landowners to acquire up to 500 cubic yards of reject or pit run gravel or to community groups to acquire up to 1500 cubic yards of reject or pit run gravel.

 The landowner/community group is responsible for ALL costs related to the procurement of the gravel, including, but not limited to, loading, hauling, liability insurance for and in the County gravel pit, County supervisory staff, and the cost of gravel at $3.00 per cubic yard.

 The landowner/community group must provide the County with at least 48 hours notice that they wish to haul gravel and negotiate the following:

a.     Location of pit

b.     Start time

c.      Number and names of trucks

d.     Number of yards (max 500 for ratepayers and 1500 for    community groups)

 Each trucker must provide County personnel with the Permit number before they will be allowed to remove gravel.  County personnel will keep a running list of each load taken and the trucker must sign the list prior to leaving the pit.  County personnel will also sign a gravel ticket for the trucker.

 At the end of the haul, the landowner/community group will be invoiced for the amount of gravel hauled as well as a maximum of $40.00 per hour for County personnel.  The hourly rate for personnel will start at the start time specified above and will stop when the last load leaves the pit each day.  The hourly rate will be pro-rated if more than one permit number is being loaded.  Payment must be made within 30 days from the date of invoice.

 The landowner agrees that should payment be in default for more than 90 days, the invoiced amount plus all finance charges will be charged to the tax roll and this amount will then become part of the collectible as property taxes.

 If you have any questions regarding the permit or would like to obtain one, please contact the Public Works department at (780) 685-3925.
