To become a candidate for any office in the Election, you must be: 

  • at least 18 years of age
  •  a Canadian citizen
  • a resident of Clear Hills County since March 22, 2025
  • not otherwise ineligible or disqualified
Notice of Intent

Section 147.22 of the Local Authorities Election Act requires an individual who intends to be nominated or has been nominated to run for election in a local jurisdiction as a candidate to give written notice to the local jurisdiction before accepting a campaign contribution or incurring a campaign expense.  

Please Note: A notice of intent is separate from nomination forms and must be submitted for anyone intending to run as a candidate in the election. Once a candidate has submitted their notice of intent they are added to the Register of Candidates and can accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses. To become a nominated candidate and appear on the ballot, the candidate must complete the nomination process.

Clear Hills County Nomination Information

Clear Hills County Nomination Information

The Clear Hills County Municipal Election is scheduled for October 20, 2025. Nominations for candidates will be accepted from January 1, 2025, until Nomination Day, September 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM.

Nomination Papers must be completed and submitted in person by noon on September 22, 2025. Papers must be signed by and submitted to the County’s Returning Officer or Duputy Returning Officer.

A completed Nomination Paper must:

  • Be printed on legal-size paper (8.5 x 14 inches).
  • Be signed by a minimum of 5 eligible electors who reside in Clear Hills County on the date of signing the Nomination Paper.
  • Include the candidate’s sworn (or affirmed) acceptance on the Nomination Paper in the presence of the Returning Officer or Deputy Returning Officer.
  • Include a completed Candidate Financial Information Form.

Candidates will also be asked to complete a Consent for Disclosure of Personal Information Form to allow their contact information to be posted on the County’s website.

Required Nomination Documents:

  • Candidates must complete and submit the following forms:

    • Form 4: Nomination Paper and Candidate’s Acceptance
    • Form 5: Candidate Information Form
    • Form 26: Campaign Disclosure Statement and Financial Report (to be submitted after the election)
    • Notice of Intent: Individuals who intend to run as a candidate in their local jurisdiction must submit a written notice of intent to the returning officer in their local jurisdiction.

    All forms are included in the Nomination package 

As per the Local Authorities Election Act, Part 1, Section 27, both Form 4 and Form 5 must be submitted together.

  • Before September 22, 2025: Book an in-person appointment by emailing bonnie@clearhillscounty.ab.ca or calling 780-685-3925 ext. 120.
  • On September 22, 2025: Drop by the Clear Hills County Administration Office, between 8:00 a.m. and noon.

Third Party Advertising

Third Party Advertising

The Local Authorities Election Act Part 8 Third Party Advertising requires the City of Grande Prairie to maintain a registry of Third Party Advertisers who engage in Election Advertising.

What is Third Party Advertising?

Third Party Advertising is a way for others outside the candidate campaign to express support or opposition for candidates with the intent to incur expenses or contributions of at least $1,000. It does not include candidates and is separate from any candidate’s campaign.

Note: Advertisements or materials that are made and distributed by a candidate or under a candidate’s direction are part of the candidate’s campaign.

Eligibility

To be eligible to register as a Third Party Advertiser, you must be one of the following:

  • An individual who resides in Alberta.
  • A group of which all members reside in Alberta.
  • A corporation that carries out business in Alberta.
  • An Alberta trade union or Alberta employee organization.
