Community & Agriculture Extension Services Clerk

Position Summary

Clear Hills County is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join our team as a Community & Agriculture Extension Services Clerk. This role provides support, resources, and expertise to producers while coordinating outreach and extension events for the Agricultural Services Department.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and administer extension events for the Agricultural Services Department.

Develop and distribute outreach materials through various platforms, including community events, newsletters, pamphlets, mail-outs, and social media.

Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, activity reports, and correspondence for the Agricultural Service Board (ASB).

Record and maintain minutes for ASB meetings.

Draft and issue weed letters, weed and pest notices, and enforcement letters.

Administer Agricultural Incentive Programs, the Shelterbelt Program, the Rental Equipment Program, and the VSI Program.

Assist in organizing and coordinating the annual agricultural trade show.

Provide support to the Agricultural Fieldman in responding to phone, email, and in-person inquiries.

Assist producers with developing or updating Environmental Farm Plans and grant applications.

Build and maintain relationships with external agencies, organizations, speakers, and presenters.

Communicate professionally with ratepayers, colleagues, management, ASB members, and Councillors.

Act as a Municipal Inspector under the Alberta Weed Control Act and Alberta Agricultural Pest Act.

Assist with operating and capital budget preparation.

Provide support to other roles in the Agricultural Services Department during high-demand periods, absences, or position vacancies.

Ensure confidentiality of work-related information in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Adhere to all municipal policies and workplace health and safety procedures.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Agricultural Fieldman or CAO.
Qualifications
-
A diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Agriculture, or Environmental Studies is an asset.

Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicators Certificate with Agriculture, Industrial, and Landscape designations.

Experience with GIS/GPS and weed inspection programs is an asset.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Municipal government experience is an asset.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required.

Excellent public speaking and communication skills.
-
Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
-
Willingness to complete additional training as required.
Working Conditions
-
Extensive computer use.
-
Primarily indoor work with some outdoor responsibilities (e.g., Rental Equipment Inspections).

Operation of county vehicles as needed.

This position is salary-based, with a standard 8-hour workday. Some extended hours or weekend work may be required.
